When it comes to balancing the demands of family life, a busy career, and staying fit, many men over 40 find themselves struggling to keep everything in check.
It’s easy to let things slip, and before you know it, the body you once knew seems like a distant memory.
Maybe you know the feeling?
But as Martin’s story shows, it’s never too late to turn things around and take control of your health and fitness – Potentially, getting in the best condition you’ve ever been in.
In this case study, we dive into Martin’s journey.
He’s a 48-year-old offshore worker originally from Scotland, now living in Brazil with his family.
Like many men in his position, Martin realised that age was catching up with him, and changes needed to be made before it was too late.
His story is one of perseverance, overcoming challenges, and ultimately transforming his life for the better.
Let’s dive into Martin’s experience, struggles, triumphs, and the advice he has for other men looking to achieve their own transformation…
I’m Scottish, 48 years old, and have spent my life working offshore. I’m married with 8-year-old twins and we have 4 dogs. My family is Brazilian, so I’ve been living in Brazil now.
Age was catching up with me. I knew that every year older I got, I would need to put in some work and effort to not become a fat old waster.
I was skinny fat for a while, but over COVID lockdowns, I rapidly declined into just a fat, bloated mess.
Weight loss, strength gains, improving health, energy, and well-being. I also wanted to gain more training and nutrition knowledge.
I used to take mad bursts of cardio—no trainer, just me hitting the treadmill and rowing machine.
I would achieve weight loss, but I didn’t understand that I was probably losing muscle mass too.
I’ve lost almost all unwanted fat. I’m stronger and getting some muscle definition to show. My cardio is good. Max weight lifts and rep numbers are gradually going up.
I’m happier with myself. I was definitely feeling like shit before I started, and I was at my heaviest.
I’ve learned a lot about exercise and nutrition that’s going to help me in the years ahead, as long as I remember and apply what I know.
Getting to my current condition, despite some ups and downs and self-sabotage.
I’ve stuck with it to be consistent enough over the long term to get decent results.
Sometimes losing enthusiasm or motivation and struggling to get my arse down to the gym. I just gave myself a mental bollocking, dragged myself through it, and always felt better when it was accomplished.
It’s not often, but maybe a couple of times I had a spell like that, which lasted a couple of weeks. Low energy or motivation—but it always passes if you grind your way through, and I usually had a good buzz when I turned the corner and got into it again.
Excellent. It’s been perfect for me, with the ability to work together remotely and flexibly. I put my trust in Dean to guide my workouts and nutrition, and it always gets results when I do my side of the bargain.
Start immediately. Today.
The first weeks of the program are very gentle, so no matter what your current fitness is like, there’s no reason to put it off. The sooner you start, the sooner you’ll get in shape.
No point in delaying. Be patient and stick with it, and you’ll get good results before long.
