How an 11 Year Army Career (and Medical Downgrade) Forced Me To Find a Better Way To Build A Leaner, Stronger Body...
I’m Dean, a former British Army Physical Trainer, certified Strength Coach, Level 3 Personal Trainer, and Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach.
But more importantly, I’m a dad of two teenagers (and three dogs) from Glasgow, Scotland, who’s had his share of struggles.
You might be wondering why you should listen to anything I have to say. Which would be completely fair.
So let me start by saying this: I honestly never expected to have helped so many men get in shape.
In fact, for lots of my adult life, I hated my body.
I was in the Army for 11 years.
So I was fit, but didn't look like it, and certainly wasn't healthy.
In 2012, I was medically downgraded for hearing damage, which meant I couldn't do 'normal soldiering' anymore, so I trained to become an Army Physical Trainer.
Which was cool, because new doors opened.
But no matter how much fitness I did my shape didn't change much.
I trained 6+ hours a week - weights, calisthenics, HIIT, running - did it all.
Yet I was skinny and fat at the same time.
I still felt embarrassed when I took the kids swimming.
And hated seeing pictures of myself on social media.
I tried lots of diet stuff - Calorie counting, Paleo Diet, Whole 30, Low Carbs, Carb Cycling - but struggled to stick to anything. Any fat I lost or definition gained, disappeared in double quick time.
But I wasn’t ready to quit. I studied to become a certified Precision
Nutrition coach, and realised all the restrictive stuff I did in the past was completely unnecessary.They showed me a simpler way to get in shape by creating new habits in a way that’s achievable and sustainable.
I lost the love handles, gained new muscle, had more energy, and finally felt proud of what I saw in the mirror.
I Got Leaner, Stronger, and Defined With Only 3 Workouts a Week (Many of Which Done in My Drive-Way)
The cool thing? I got in better shape after slashing my weekly workout time from 6+ hours down to 3 hours per week, and eating MORE foods I enjoyed.
